Free Quran exploration software

CoolQuran available at https://coolquran.web.app is a free Quran exploration software application that lets you compare different translations, search among original text and translations and bookmark verses for easy reference.

  • Home page of this applicaiton provides an interface to read and navigate through different chapters and verses in Quran.
  • Chapter number and verse number can be directly entered in the text boxes and the specified verse details will appear after hitting the search button.
  • Left and right arrow buttons can be used to navigate to the next and previous verses.
  • Bookmark button can be used to bookmark the current verse. At anytime, you can get back to a bookmarked verse by going to the "Bookmarks" page and clicking on the bookmark button with chapter and verse number.
  • Favourite button can be used to add the current verse to the list of favourite verses. At anytime, you can get back to a favourite verse by going to the "Bookmarks" page and clicking on the favourite button with chapter and verse number. Click on the button again to remove it from the favourites.
  • Quran verse is displayed in a box with chpater details as heading and the arabic text in the detail section.
  • Chapter main heder lists these details: [Chapter number] [Chapter name in Arabic] [Chapter name in English]
  • Chapter sub heder lists these details: [Revelation order] [Chapter meaning in English] [Revelation location]
  • You need to go to "Settings" page to download and enable different available translations.
  • Each enabled translation will appear on the home page in different boxes. The header will display the translator name and the details will provide the translation of current verse.
  • Quick navigation buttons are available at the bottom of each page in this order: [Back] [Home] [Browse] [Search] [Bookmarks]

Launching and Settings

Launching and Installation

  • Go to https://coolquran.web.app from any modern browser (Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, etc.) from any device (Computers, Mobile phones, Tablets).
  • The page will display a "Loading..." message. This is because all data is loaded first to make the app faster while using. Be patient... after a while the home page will appear.
  • Look for the install button. In most browsers, it will be a small (+) symbol at the end of address bar. If you are browsing from a mobile, it normally prompts automatically with a question "Add to home?" or similar. Some browsers will have this option as a separate menu item.
  • Once installed, this application can be launched later on as a native application from computers (Windows, Mac, Unix, etc.) or mobile devices (Android or iOS).

Initial Setup

  • When you use it for the first time, there will be no translations available. Go to the "Settings" page to download and enable translations.
  • You will see a "Download" button under each available translation. Click on it and wait for sometime to complete the downloading.
  • Once downloading is completed, click on "Enable" button to enable the translation. After this, the selected translation will be available on home page.
  • Downloading more translations will result in error if storage quota in your browser is exceeded. Some mobile browsers do not support large offline data storage.
  • Try removing other translations to make space for the required translations.

Translations


Browse

  • Using the "Browse" page, you can explore Quran chapter by chapter. All chapters are initially listed in the order of their chapter numbers.
  • Use the sort button to change the listing order to the order of revelation.
  • Each chapter is listed as a box containing chapter details.
  • Chapter main heder lists these details: [Chapter number] [Chapter name in Arabic] [Chapter name in English]
  • Chapter sub heder lists these details: [Revelation order] [Chapter meaning in English] [Revelation location]
  • Click anywhere on the chapter box to see the list of verses in that chapter.
  • Click on the verse number box to navigate to that verse.
  • Use the back button to get back to the previous page.
  • Bookmarked chapter and verse will be highlighted in golden colour.


Bookmarks

  • Using the "Bookmarks" page, you can view the bookmarked verse and the list of favourite verses.
  • Click on the verse button to navigate to that verse.
  • Use the back button to get back to the previous page of bookmark and favourites.
  • If you click on the bookmark button on the home page on a different verse, the bookmark will be moved to that verse.
  • If you click on the favourite button again on a verse, it will be removed from the favourites.

  • Using the "About" page, you can view features and details of this application.
  • It also list out the source for Quran text and translations and the developer information along with last updated date.
  • Note: All Quran text and translations are sourced from http://tanzil.net. Tanzil, is an international Quranic project aimed at providing a highly verified precise Quran text in Unicode.
